Aulonocara, commonly known as Peacocks, are a genus of cichlids native to Lake Malawi. Known for their vibrant coloration, they’re one of the most popular choices among cichlid enthusiasts.
Peacocks are sexually dimorphic—males display brilliant colors while females remain mostly silver or gray. While generally considered more peaceful than other African cichlids, they can still show aggression, especially toward similar-looking males. With proper tank setup and size matching, they can be housed with Haplochromis species as well as OB Cichlids of similar size.
